How to Redeem an Xbox Gift Card
You've got your Xbox gift card code and you want to get the balance into your account as fast as possible. This guide covers every redemption method — console, PC, web browser, and the Xbox app — so you can pick whichever works best for where you are right now.
One thing to get right before you start: make sure you're signed into the correct Microsoft account. Once a code is redeemed it's permanently linked to that account and cannot be transferred. Xbox Support cannot move balances between accounts after redemption, so double-check before you enter anything.
Method 1 — Redeem on Xbox Console (Fastest If You're Already Playing)
This is the quickest method if your console is already on.
Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide
Select Store from the menu
Scroll down and select Redeem code
Enter your 25-character code — the dashes are added automatically, just type the characters
Select Next and confirm
Your balance appears in your Microsoft account immediately
The console automatically signs you in with the Microsoft account attached to your gamertag — just make sure that's the account you want the balance on before you start.
Method 2 — Redeem on Web Browser (Works on Any Device)
The balance always lands in the Microsoft account you are signed in to — so if you're redeeming on a browser, sign in first before entering the code.
Open any browser and go to microsoft.com/redeem
Sign in to your Microsoft account
Enter your 25-character code in the box
Select Next and follow the prompts
Balance is added to your account instantly
This method works on phones, tablets, laptops — anything with a browser. It's the most flexible option and the one to use if you're not near your console.
Method 3 — Redeem on Windows PC via Microsoft Store
Press Start and search for Microsoft Store
Open the Store and click your profile icon in the top right
Select Redeem code or gift cards
Enter your 25-character code
Select Next and confirm
Your balance appears immediately and is ready to spend on games, Game Pass, and anything else in the Microsoft Store.
Method 4 — Redeem via Xbox App on PC
Press Start, enter Xbox into the search bar, and choose the Xbox app from the results. Select your gamerpic in the top-left corner, then select Settings, then select Redeem under Redeem a code. Enter your 25-character code, select Next, and follow the prompts.
Note that you cannot redeem codes through the Xbox mobile app — use the browser method on your phone instead.
What Your Balance Can Be Used For
Once redeemed, your Microsoft account balance can be spent on:
Xbox and PC games — full game purchases from the Microsoft Store
Xbox Game Pass Ultimate — the subscription covering 100+ games, EA Play and cloud gaming
Xbox Game Pass — standard game library subscription
Downloadable content — DLC, expansions, season passes, in-game currency
Movies and entertainment — Microsoft Movies & TV purchases
Xbox accessories and hardware — select items in the Microsoft Store
The balance never expires once added to your account and rolls over between purchases automatically.
Common Problems and How to Fix Them
"This code isn't valid" error
The Xbox code is exactly 25 alphanumeric characters — an "O" entered instead of a "0", a missed character, or a paste with trailing whitespace can all trigger this error. Re-enter the code carefully, ideally copy-pasted directly from the delivery email, and try again.
"This code has already been redeemed"
If you've just received the code and this error appears, contact the store you purchased from immediately. Keep your purchase confirmation as proof.
Balance added but can't see it
You may have been signed in to a different Microsoft account than the one you use to play. Microsoft does not transfer Xbox gift card balance between accounts after redemption. Check which account is active in the Xbox app or on Xbox.com and sign in there to use the balance.
"This code isn't available in your region"
Xbox gift cards are region-specific. An EU code needs to be redeemed on a Microsoft account set to an EU region. A UK code needs a UK account. Always check the region before purchasing.
Code won't paste correctly
Some redemption forms don't accept pasted codes with formatting. Type the code manually if copy-paste isn't working, taking care with easily confused characters like 0 and O, or 1 and I.
EU Accounts — What to Know
If your Microsoft account is set to an EU country, make sure you're buying an EU region Xbox gift card. Region-locked codes will not work on accounts set to a different region and cannot be refunded once a redemption attempt has been made.
All Xbox gift cards on our store are clearly marked by region — EU codes work across all EU Microsoft accounts and deliver balance instantly by email after purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take for an Xbox gift card to add balance to my account?
Instantly. As soon as the code is successfully redeemed the balance appears in your Microsoft account and is immediately available to spend.
Can I use an Xbox gift card to pay for Game Pass?
Yes — your Microsoft account balance can be used to purchase Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, or any other Microsoft subscription or game from the Store.
Do Xbox gift cards expire?
Most Xbox gift cards don't expire and the balance remains valid indefinitely. Some promotional codes may have expiry dates — check the terms of any promotional card before redeeming.
Can I split a purchase between my gift card balance and a credit card?
Yes — the Microsoft Store automatically applies your account balance first and charges the remainder to your saved payment method if the balance doesn't cover the full amount.
Can I check my Microsoft account balance before buying something?
Yes — sign in at account.microsoft.com and your current balance is visible under Payment & billing.
What's the difference between an Xbox gift card and an Xbox Game Pass code?
An Xbox gift card adds credit to your Microsoft account wallet that you spend on anything in the store. A Game Pass code activates a subscription directly without going through your wallet balance.
We stock Xbox gift cards and Game Pass Ultimate EU codes with instant delivery to your email after purchase. Your code arrives the moment your order is confirmed — ready to redeem immediately using any of the methods above.
