EA FC 27 Update 1.0.4: What Changed — and What EA Still Didn’t Fix
Share
The big story is that Career Mode gets most of the attention, while EA explicitly made no gameplay balance/tuning changes. The update also fixes the FUT “Service Unavailable” problem and the weird Hyper Cosmetic/base-card issue.
That gives us something gamers actually want to know:
“I downloaded the new update. Did EA actually change the gameplay?”
Answer: No.
Let's make that the hook.
EA FC 27 Update 1.0.4: What Changed — and What EA Still Didn’t Fix
EA SPORTS FC 27 has received another update, and Title Update 1.0.4 is now rolling out across supported platforms.
But if you're expecting another gameplay adjustment, there's an important detail you need to know first:
EA has made no gameplay balance or tuning changes in Update 1.0.4.
Instead, this patch focuses heavily on Career Mode, while also fixing problems affecting Ultimate Team, The Grounds, FC Lite and general stability.
Here's what actually changed.
EA FC 27 Update 1.0.4: The Biggest Change
The biggest part of this update isn't Ultimate Team.
It's Manager Career Mode.
EA has reduced the number of High OVR and High Potential players generated during Manager Career.
This should help address one of the problems that can become increasingly noticeable during longer saves: too many extremely highly rated generated players appearing and changing the balance of the football world.
For players who plan to keep a Career save running for many seasons, this could be one of the most important changes in the entire update.
Transfer Negotiations Have Also Changed
EA has also adjusted how Manager Career negotiations work.
Previously, if you offered a transfer fee significantly higher than the club's requested amount, the bid could be accepted immediately.
With Update 1.0.4, the club can still respond to the negotiation even when you're offering substantially more than requested.
That should make transfers feel less like an instant transaction and more like an actual negotiation.
Free Agent Signing Problem Fixed
Another Career Mode problem has been addressed.
Some players were unable to sign Free Agents when the transfer market was disabled or when they were outside an active transfer window.
That issue has now been fixed.
CPU Transfer Counteroffers Fixed
EA also fixed an unusual negotiation problem where the CPU could sometimes respond with a counteroffer that was higher than its originally demanded or guaranteed fee.
That should make Career Mode negotiations more consistent.
EA also fixed a stability issue that could occur when selecting certain teams in Live Start Points.
Liga MX Calendar Finally Fixed
There's another interesting Career Mode fix that could easily be missed.
The Liga MX season was restarting in May instead of the intended mid-January period.
Update 1.0.4 corrects the calendar.
For players running long-term saves involving Mexican clubs, that's an important correction.
Ultimate Team Gets Two Important Fixes
Ultimate Team doesn't receive a gameplay change in this update, but two annoying issues are being addressed.
“Service Unavailable” After FUT Matches
In certain situations, players could receive a Service Unavailable error after completing a FUT match.
Update 1.0.4 addresses that issue.
This is particularly important because the problem could appear after the match was already completed, making it especially frustrating for players trying to continue through Ultimate Team.
Fake-Looking Holographic Base Cards
EA also fixed an issue where certain Player Picks could display Hyper Cosmetic visuals on base items.
EA specifically states that base items aren't supposed to have those holographic visuals.
So if you saw a normal item suddenly looking like a special cosmetic variant, that was a bug — not a secret new card type.
The Grounds Also Gets Fixes
Two problems have been addressed in The Grounds.
Players could sometimes encounter a loading screen requiring a full game restart when viewing their active club through the Player Profile.
EA has also fixed cases where the post-match UI flow was incorrect.
These aren't huge feature changes, but they're the type of problems that can make a new mode feel unfinished.
PS5 Players Get a Small Visual Change
Update 1.0.4 also includes an adjustment specifically for PS5:
Some Player Indicator colours have been updated.
It's a small change, but it's part of the latest build.
FC 27 Lite Also Gets a Fix
Players using FC 27 Lite could sometimes see unintended teams when randomising teams in Kick-Off.
That has now been corrected.
EA also included several general stability fixes.
So… Did EA Change the Gameplay?
No.
This is probably the most important thing to know before you start looking for gameplay differences.
EA has explicitly stated that Update 1.0.4 contains no gameplay balance or tuning changes.
That means this isn't the patch that suddenly changes dribbling, passing, defending, shooting or the overall gameplay meta.
If FC 27 feels different after downloading the update, don't automatically assume EA secretly changed the gameplay.
The official update is focused on fixes and stability, not gameplay tuning.
What Update 1.0.4 Actually Means
The first FC 27 updates have been arriving quickly after launch.
Update 1.0.3 was released on October 2 and focused on smaller bugs across Ultimate Team, The Grounds, Career Mode and general stability.
Now 1.0.4 continues that cleanup.
But there's a clear pattern:
EA is fixing the systems around the gameplay before making another major gameplay adjustment.
For Career Mode players, this update is particularly interesting because generated players, negotiations, Free Agents and the Liga MX calendar all receive attention.
For Ultimate Team players, the “Service Unavailable” and incorrect Player Pick visuals are the biggest fixes.
For everyone waiting for gameplay changes:
You're still waiting.

The Bottom Line
EA FC 27 Update 1.0.4 is a cleanup patch, not a gameplay patch.
If you're playing Career Mode, however, there's more here than the small version number suggests.
The changes to generated players and transfer negotiations could become much more noticeable the longer your save continues.
And for Ultimate Team players dealing with post-match Service Unavailable errors, this update targets one of the more frustrating problems directly.
But if you downloaded 1.0.4 hoping EA changed the gameplay — don't expect that yet.
