EA FC 27: New Things We Found After Playing
Share
EA FC 27 has arrived, and the first thing you notice is that it doesn't feel exactly like EA FC 26.
Some changes are obvious.
Others take several matches to notice.
And then there are changes that EA has officially documented versus things players are discovering for themselves.
That's what we're focusing on here.
This isn't just another FC 27 feature list.
We're looking at the changes that actually affect how the game feels and how you play it.
Important: Items marked as EA Confirmed come from EA's official FC 27 information. Items marked Early Player Reports are observations from players during the launch period and should not be treated as confirmed game mechanics.
1. AI Defenders Are Less Willing to Automatically Win the Ball
Status: EA Confirmed
One of the biggest gameplay changes in FC 27 is the reduction of automatic AI defensive tackling in Competitive Gameplay.
Previously, an AI-controlled defender could automatically attempt a tackle when an attacker came close enough.
In FC 27, EA says AI defenders are intended to rely more heavily on positioning while waiting for the manually controlled defender to make the tackle.
That means the player controlling the defender has more responsibility.
You can't simply rely on your defensive line to automatically clean up every attacking situation.
What this means in practice
Defending should require more attention to:
Positioning
Player switching
Timing
Defensive jockeying
Closing passing lanes
Choosing when to tackle
This is one of the changes that can make FC 27 feel noticeably different within the first few matches.
2. Attacking Players Are More Aware of Open Space
Status: EA Confirmed
EA has introduced Attacking Spatial Awareness.
The idea is straightforward:
Instead of attackers simply maintaining their assigned position, they can better recognize available space and make more decisive movements into it.
This works alongside other new attacking systems, including:
Triggered Curved Runs
Pass & Follow Runs
Improved Creative Runs
Crossing into space
The goal is to give attacking players more freedom without completely abandoning tactical structure.
3. Triggered Curved Runs Add Another Way to Attack
Status: EA Confirmed
FC 27 introduces Triggered Curved Runs.
This gives players another way to manipulate attacking movement rather than relying only on traditional forward runs.
Combined with improved spatial awareness, the system is designed to make attacking movement less predictable.
This could be particularly useful when trying to:
Get behind a defensive line
Create passing angles
Pull defenders away from the center
Create space for another attacker
It also means learning attacking runs becomes more important when building your tactics.
4. Pass & Follow Runs Change How You Can Build Attacks
Status: EA Confirmed
Another new attacking option is Pass & Follow.
The concept is that after playing the ball, the player can become involved in the next movement rather than simply remaining in their original position.
This creates another way to combine movement and passing.
It should be particularly interesting for players who prefer:
Short passing
One-twos
Possession football
Central combinations
Quick attacking transitions
EA is clearly trying to give players more ways to create attacking movement instead of making every attack look the same.
5. Crossing Is Designed Around Space
Status: EA Confirmed
Crossing has received another significant change.
EA says FC 27 introduces Skill-Based Crossing, with more emphasis on where the ball is delivered rather than simply targeting a player.
This gives the attacker more control over the area they want to attack.
In theory, that should make crosses more useful when:
The striker is making a delayed run
A winger attacks the far post
Multiple attackers enter the box
The defense is compact
You want to target empty space
However, early player reports are mixed.
Some launch-period players have described crossing as difficult or ineffective, meaning this is one mechanic worth testing extensively rather than judging after one or two matches.
6. Corners Work Differently
Status: EA Confirmed + Early Player Reports
FC 27 introduces more direct control around corner situations.
EA's new systems are intended to provide more variety and control over attacking corners.
But some early Career Mode players are already reporting that the new corner system feels unusual and difficult to judge.
That's an early player observation, not evidence that the system is broken.
The important thing is that corners are something you'll probably need to relearn rather than simply copying your FC 26 routine.
7. Headers Are Another Area Players Are Noticing
Status: Early Player Reports
Heading has already generated discussion among early players.
Some players report that heading feels difficult or inconsistent.
This is particularly interesting because EA has also changed the way crosses and attacking movement work.
That means we shouldn't automatically assume the problem is the heading mechanic itself.
It could be the interaction between:
crossing → movement → positioning → timing → heading.
We'll need more gameplay testing before calling this a confirmed problem.
8. FUT Has a Completely New Gallery
Status: EA Confirmed
One of the biggest Ultimate Team changes isn't actually on the pitch.
FC 27 introduces the new FUT Gallery.
The Gallery gives your Club a more visible space where you can collect and display items.
EA says there are more than 100 Gallery Sets available at launch, covering clubs, leagues, rarities and other categories.
Your Gallery progress also contributes to a Gallery Level, with rewards attached to milestones.
9. Player Items Can Appear as 3D Objects
Status: EA Confirmed
The FUT Gallery isn't simply another menu.
Player Items can appear as 3D objects inside the Gallery.
This includes different types of items as your Club develops throughout the season.
The visual presentation is designed to make your Ultimate Team collection feel more like something you're building and displaying rather than just a collection of cards in menus.
10. Holographic Player Items Are New
Status: EA Confirmed
FC 27 also introduces Holographic Items.
These are rarer versions of eligible special player items.
The important detail:
The Holographic version doesn't make the player better on the pitch.
EA says the player and in-match Attributes remain the same.
The difference is primarily rarity and visual presentation.
There are two Holographic types:
Regular Holographic
Pristine Holographic
So if you see one early in the game, you're looking at a different presentation of the item rather than a stronger version of the player.
11. Evolutions Have More Flexible Progression Paths
Status: EA Confirmed
Evolutions return in FC 27, but EA has changed how they work.
One important addition is more tailored progression paths.
Instead of every Evolution simply following one predetermined upgrade route, certain Evolutions can provide different ways to develop the player.
EA also describes branching Pathways and an Evolution Chain Preview.
This should make Evolutions more interesting for players who want to build around specific players rather than constantly replacing them.
12. Special Players Get More Role Flexibility
Status: EA Confirmed
This is potentially one of the more important FUT changes for squad building.
EA says special items released throughout FC 27 will receive Role++ familiarity across every role in their primary and secondary positions.
That gives players more freedom when fitting special cards into different tactical systems.
Instead of asking:
"Can I actually use this player in my formation?"
You'll have more flexibility when designing your squad.
This could also make tactical experimentation easier throughout the season.
13. Campaigns Are Becoming Smaller
Status: EA Confirmed
EA is changing the way FUT campaigns progress.
FC 27 will have:
Smaller Campaign squads
Fewer Campaign weeks
More focused upgrades
Smaller differences between some campaign items
EA says there will be approximately five fewer Campaign weeks across the year.
Some of those periods will instead become Series periods without new Special Items entering packs.
The intention is to give individual special cards more time to remain relevant instead of immediately being replaced by another massive promotion.
14. PlayStyles+ Have Been Reduced
Status: EA Confirmed
FC 27 reduces the maximum number of PlayStyles+ on a single item from five to three.
EA says this is part of a broader attempt to reduce the scale of upgrades throughout the season and preserve what makes individual players unique.
This could become particularly noticeable later in the year when special cards begin receiving increasingly powerful upgrades.
15. More FUT Rewards Are Tradeable
Status: EA Confirmed
EA is also increasing the proportion of rewards delivered through:
Tradeable packs
FUT Coins
Other earned rewards
The stated goal is to give players more control over how they build their Clubs.
That means earning rewards isn't necessarily just about receiving an untradeable player you may never use.
Tradeable rewards can instead become:
coins → transfer market → squad upgrade.
EA says playing matches should also contribute more directly to Club progression through increased FUT Coin rewards and Season Points from eligible matches.
16. The Grounds Is a Bigger Part of FC 27
Status: EA Confirmed
The Grounds is the new home of Clubs in FC 27.
It combines:
Clubs
League matches
Playoffs
Rush
Club Tournaments
Objectives
Pro development
Your time in The Grounds contributes to developing your Pro through AXP and Grounds Coins.
EA also plans limited-time experiences and Live Events throughout the season.
17. Career Mode Has Creator Challenges
Status: EA Confirmed
Career Mode also gets an interesting addition that isn't simply another player rating or transfer feature.
Creator Challenges allow players to create their own Career Mode challenges and share them with friends.
EA says these can be used to recreate football stories, unusual scenarios or custom Career Mode ideas.
That could eventually make Career Mode saves more shareable between players.
18. Dynamic Overall Is Getting Attention
Status: Early Player Reports
One of the interesting early Career Mode observations is Dynamic Overall.
A player who spent several hours testing Career Mode reported that Dynamic Overall was looking good so far.
This is still an individual early impression, so it shouldn't be treated as a definitive assessment of the system.
But it's something worth monitoring as more players spend time with Career Mode.
19. The New Menus Are Already Getting Mixed Reactions
Status: Early Player Reports
The FC 27 interface has changed.
Some early Career Mode players are already commenting on the new menus, with one launch-period report describing them negatively.
That's subjective, so we're not going to call the new menus "bad."
The useful information is simply that the interface has changed enough that returning FC players may need some time to adjust.
20. PC Players Have New Performance Options
Status: EA Confirmed
PC players also get several changes.
EA has introduced new Performance and Balanced presets, along with additional information such as VRAM guidance and redesigned keyboard controls.
That gives PC players more control over how they configure the game depending on their hardware.
For anyone upgrading from FC 26, checking the graphics settings before playing competitive matches is worthwhile.
What We Are Still Testing
FC 27 has only just reached players, so some questions cannot be answered responsibly yet.
We're watching:
Whether the new AI defending feels consistently different
How much attacking spatial awareness changes real matches
Whether Skill-Based Crossing is actually more useful
How consistent the new corner system is
Whether heading is genuinely different or simply harder to execute
How Dynamic Overall behaves over a full Career season
How the new FUT progression feels after several weeks
Whether the new Role++ system changes squad building significantly
Whether PC performance improves consistently across different hardware
These are areas where more matches matter more than first impressions.
The Biggest Thing to Remember
Don't judge FC 27 entirely from the first few matches.
Some of the most important changes are systems that interact with each other.
For example:
Attacking Spatial Awareness + Curved Runs + Pass & Follow + Skill-Based Crossing
could create a very different attacking experience once players actually learn how the systems work together.
The same applies defensively:
Less automatic AI tackling + manual defending + player switching
means players may need to defend differently than they did in FC 26.
Our FC 27 Discovery List
We'll keep updating this article as more genuine discoveries appear.
When we find something new, we'll classify it as:
🟢 EA Confirmed — documented by EA.
🟡 Observed In-Game — something we can reproduce ourselves.
🔵 Community Report — reported by multiple players but not officially confirmed.
🔴 Unverified — interesting claim that still needs testing.
That distinction matters.
There are already plenty of FC 27 posts online calling every unusual behavior a "secret feature" or "hidden mechanic."
We're not going to do that.
If we can't verify it, we'll say so.
Final Thoughts
EA FC 27 isn't simply FC 26 with new player ratings.
The biggest changes are spread across the entire experience.
On the pitch, EA is putting more responsibility on manual defending while giving attackers more freedom through spatial awareness, new run types and different crossing mechanics.
In Ultimate Team, the FUT Gallery, Holographic Items, Evolutions, Role++ flexibility and changes to rewards create a different progression structure.
Career Mode and The Grounds also receive new systems that give players more ways to create and customize their experience.
But the game has only just launched.
The most interesting FC 27 discoveries may not be the features EA announced before release.
They may be the small things players discover after 50, 100 or 500 matches.
And that's what we'll be watching.
We'll update this guide as we find genuinely new FC 27 mechanics, hidden changes and useful discoveries.
